Xylotek collaborated with Random Studio and L'Oreal Group to create hollow timber body shapes for a pop-up shop at Selfridges on Oxford Street, London. The immersive retail experience celebrated Mugler's 30th anniversary of their scent 'Angel' and opened throughout November 2022.
Fabricated at the Bristol workshop, these body shapes were pre-constructed in modules which enabled them to be sanded and painted in the signature Mugler blue and reflective chrome. The installation in the pop-up shop took several nights to construct the seamless retail experience.
From the street, the sculptural installation forms an abstract side view of a woman elegantly reclining. As a departure from Xylotek's typical projects, this abstract form presented a new challenge to our in-house design team and workshop crew. The segments were designed to be hollow, each 'layer' of timber being CNC machined to specific shapes and stacked to form the whole shape. The use of timber in this project was advocated for by Xylotek and boosted by the external project teams.
We are delighted with this project's result and were pleased to secure the body shapes a second life at the Propyard in Bristol. This event space often showcases immersive art experiences and live performances.
