CLT feature staircase
The refurbished Netflix HQ offices in London feature a staircase made from spruce cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam, designed by Xylotek. The project involved collaboration with engineers from Corbett and Tasker, Lucking & Clark, architects from Perkins & Will, and the main contractor ISG.
The staircase is designed with disassembly in mind, allowing for potential reusability. This feature aims to demonstrate that a large, commercial timber staircase can be both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly. The design is also future-proofed, facilitating future demolition.
The project involved careful coordination and project management due to the installation of the seven flights of stairs having to align with other ongoing refurbishments at the Netflix HQ offices.
The staircase highlights the integration of sustainable design practices into commercial spaces and underscores the potential for using timber as a viable and eco-friendly construction solution in large-scale office projects.
