Bamboo composite gridshell workshop, Napier University

Europe's first bamboo-timber composite gridshell!Xylotek are fresh from a two days at Napier University in Edinburgh, taking part in the gridshell-making workshop hosted by Hexin(Johnson) Zhang, Professor of Structural Engineering, where colleagues Oscar Emanuel and Phoebe Mitchell also presented lectures to students on complex geometry in commercial timber projects.

Both were left inspired by the skilled endeavour and collaboration of the visiting team involving 31 visiting students from the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong 香港高等教育科技學院. It was fantastic to meet Simon, Timothy and Ken and the Hong Kong team.

The workshops focused on mixing composite bio-based material and technological advancement aided by the cutting edge augmented reality visual setting out and quality control tools.Xylotek look forward to collaborating on the double-sized gridshell that is planned for 2025...
